Afghan Culture

So I’ve started to research Afghanistan culture. Afghanistan is a mountainous area with a dry climate located in Southern Asia. It obtained its independence from Britain in 1919. It is land-locked and has a population of about 29,929,000 people. The main religion is Islam and the main languages spoken are Dari and Pushtu. Some popular sports in Afghanistan include Buzkashi, which is played on horseback (and is just crazy- look it up!) and kite-flying. I wish Americans did more kite-flying!
In the 1990’s, the Taliban and post-Soviet government banned instrumental music, but they kept playing anyways!
I keep hearing that Afghan food is delicious, so I’m very excited about this project. Food is an important part of Afghan culture and if a guest arrives unannounced in Afghanistan, they won’t hesitate to feed you and won't let you go until you're stuffed. Their food is not overly spiced, but not bland either and they eat without forks or spoons, preferring to use their hands or scoop the food with different types of bread called “naan”.

Here is some Afghan music just to get you pumped for the meal, but for now, Shab bekheir va khabhaye shirin (that's Dari for "goodnight and sweet dreams)!

Introduction

There are 196 countries in the world right now.
I am going to attempt to cook a meal from every single one of these countries, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe.
I will have a main course, an appetizer, a couple sides and/or maybe a salad, a beverage and a dessert for most of them, depending on the case.
On the way I will include the meal, recipes, reactions of those to whom I served the meal, experiences shopping and photos of the completed meal and cooking process.
Along the way I may add some other random posts about my interests and things, but I'd like to use this blog primarily for this project.
Please join me on this adventure :)
